Assistant Pastor of Discipleship
This position is designed to work together with the pastoral team and ministry directors to create, enhance and multiply opportunities for spiritual transformation at Greentree Community Church. This person will encourage and equip the Greentree spiritual family to love Jesus and love all peoples in joyful community so that the Gospel of Jesus Christ brings salvation, reconciliation, justice, and mercy to Kirkwood, St. Louis, and beyond.
Specific Responsibilities and Areas of Focus
Spiritual Formation: Direct and supervise spiritual growth through classes, small groups and personal mentoring, with an emphasis on men’s discipleship.
Discipleship Pathway: Help develop and implement a clear path for visitors to become fully engaged members of the Greentree spiritual family who are continually growing in their relationship with God.
Evangelism: Provide training and leadership by example to encourage and equip the congregation to be more enthusiastic and capable in sharing the Gospel with others. Direct the process of welcoming visitors and integrating new members and attenders into the life and ministry of the church.
Leadership Development and Care: Identify new leaders within the church to invest in and train as small group leaders, mentors, and future deacons and elders. As part of the pastoral team, help provide encouragement, development, and care for Greentree staff and ministry leaders through studies, training, and one-on-one meetings.
General Pastoral Responsibilities
Teach in classes, retreats, and small groups, and meet with members of the congregation as needed. Preach occasionally on Sunday mornings, according to his gifts and the needs of the church.
Positive growing Christian faith, relational leadership, teaching gifts, organizational management, written and verbal communications, ability to develop and implement new ministries and systems.
Reports to: Initially reports to Interim Executive Director, then to next Senior Pastor
Status: Full time pastor, ordained or ordainable in the EPC.
