Elders

Meet Mike Gebhart

Mike is a native St. Louisian. He graduated from Missouri Baptist University in 1978 and did graduate work at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Kansas, and Webster University in St. Louis. Mike has served on many non-profit boards throughout the country and has been on various civic boards. He is also a graduate fellow of the C.S. Lewis Institute.

He and his wife Nancy have three children and ten grandchildren and have been members of GTCC for 3 years. His desire to serve GTCC as an Elder in kingdom work is the culmination of many years of preparation and experience that have equipped him to answer God’s call to service for the glory of God.


Meet Michael Denckhoff

Mike is married to Sara and has four children- Grace, John, Libby, and Josh. He taught second grade Sunday School for many years, leads a men’s Bible study, and currently serves on the Pastor Search Team.


Meet Mike Higgins

Mike is married to Tammy and they have five children– Molly, Lucas, Alicea, Melissa and Jeremy. Mike is passionate about student ministry and men’s ministry. His wife, Tammy, serves on the Greentree staff in Children’s Ministry.


Meet Matt Schaefer

Katie and Matt  met in a GTCC bible study in 2004 and have served in Children’s, Student, and other ministries. They have four kids: Sophia, August, Henry, and Adalyn. Matt has a tutoring business and enjoys running, wildlife from reptiles to waterfowl, time in the natural world with others, and cooking. The Lord brought Matt  to Greentree Community Church in 2001 through Damascus Road, a young adult ministry. Katie and Matt  have celebrated, grown, lived, cried, hoped, and prayed with our Greentree family over the years. After serving on the Pastor Search Committee, Matt is  so excited about God’s provision for our church and how He is calling us to live out His vision for Greentree. He is  eager to use prayer, time, and the gifts God has given him  to shepherd our church family.


Meet Bob Jones

Bob is married to Cathy. He leads two Community Groups, teaches Middle School Sunday School and serves as Clerk of the Session. His wife, Cathy, co-leads the Cornerstone class and leads a WTM Bible Study group. 


Meet Josh Lang

Josh is married to Missy and they have three children – Sonya, Teddy, and Eliza. Josh has worked with a variety of ministries over the past 20 years, but always in some fashion with Children’s Ministry. He also serves on the Executive Team.

Meet Bob Lapides

Sally and Bob have been married for 48 years and have lived in Kirkwood most of our lives. They have three children. All are married and live in the St Louis area. They are blessed with five grandchildren who keep them young as they stay active in their lives. Bob has been attending GTCC about 15 years. He loves God’s church and loves to care for His family as we grow and enjoy life together. Bob wants to advance God’s Kingdom with Greentree’s vision as God calls us to unity, growth, and transformation into Christlikeness.


Meet Tom Werner

Tom is married to Susan. He is involved in many different ministries at Greentree, including men’s Bible study, officer training, teaching, and Stephen Ministry. He currently serves on the Executive Team. His wife, Susan, is a Stephen Ministry leader.


Meet Tom Whittaker

Tom is married to Cia. He currently serves on the Pastor Search Team and in the worship ministry. Following his retirement in 2016, Tom has worked on and off as a marketing consultant to nonprofit organizations. In addition to spending quality time with Cia, their adult children and their grandkids, Tom enjoys exercising, playing tennis, pickle ball, fly fishing and escaping to the family log cabin in Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri. Tom says he loves many aspects of Greentree, but it is the people of Greentree living and worshipping together in community and serving our greater community that he appreciates most.

Meet Matt Scheidt

Matt and his wife Dana are raising three children, Nathan (16), Peter (14) and Ryan (9), all in Kirkwood schools. Matt is an attorney at Purina, counseling the teams responsible for sales, acquisitions, marketing, strategy and research and development. Matt has served with the summer children’s ministry, 20:28, Men’s ministry, and participated in and co-led Community Groups.  Matt loves seeing the diverse ways Greentree members seek to glorify God by loving and discipling those around them.

Meet Jordan Kuiper

Jordan and his wife, Taylor, have attended Greentree since Summer 2015. Jordan is currently serving as the Head Deacon and a member of the Missions Team, and Taylor serves on the Greentree Staff as the Business Manager. Jordan enjoys working for Kirkwood Fence, cycling all around St. Louis whenever he can, gathering friends and family together, and, most importantly, playing with his 6 month old son, Matthew! 



Meet Sharon Buchanan-McClure

Sharon and Rich have been married 44 years and have two married children, Ryan McClure and Lindsay McClure-Hartman, who live with their families in the City of St. Louis three blocks from each other. They have three grandchildren and her favorite current title is ‘Gammy.’ Her career was in public service centering around education policy and mental health issues as Director of Governmental Relations for the Southern Illinois University system and Director of Public Affairs for the Missouri Department of Mental Health. Sharon ‘retired’ from public service to focus on her brother’s care who died of ALS and her young family. 

Greentree Community Church has been Sharon’s church home for more than 20 years. It has been a privilege co-leading a women’s Bible study for over 16 years, a Community Group, and being involved with our church focus on Biblical Justice and Mercy. She currently serves on the Pastor Search Team.

Meet Mark Doyle

Mark and Kim have one daughter who is married and lives in Singapore. Mark retired from OneDigital in 2022 as a broker/consultant in the Employee Benefits industry. He appreciates the many ways Greentree has served individuals and communities for almost 25 years, and that serving others has a high priority in our mission and vision. Mark and Kim have attended Greentree for 14 years and were initially drawn by the clear preaching of the Gospel and the contemporary style of worship. Mark previously served two terms as a deacon, the last one ending in 2020. He enjoys serving on the music ministry team, 2028, and the property maintenance teams.

Meet Greg O’Donnell

Greg is married to Kim, and has a daughter, Ana, who is a junior at Providence Classical Christian Academy. The O’Donnells moved to St. Louis from the Chicago area due to Greg’s job change six years ago, and they started attending Greentree five years ago. Greg works for Parents as Teachers at their National Center in Maryland Heights, as a director in professional training in the field of early childhood development. At Greentree, he has participated in the Helps ministry, Hands Across Kirkwood, led a Bible Study on Sunday morning and leads his small group occasionally, and he runs the slides in worship one Sunday a month.  Greg appreciates the clear teaching from the pulpit at Greentree and the many ways Greentree reaches out to the community.

Meet Chris Sealy

Meet Dustin Synder

Dustin and his wife Nehley have two children, Sloane (8) and Jay (6). Dustin calls himself a “recovering’ accountant,” having started a career in public accounting and now moving more into the business side of finance. Dustin and Nehley were initially drawn to Greentree by the children’s ministry.  Both of their children love coming on Sundays and always walk away with real knowledge from their time at church. Dustin and Nehley really love the mix of people in our church, young and old, and from different backgrounds. Dustin serves on the Welcome Team, and says he loves sharing a smile and a warm “hello” with familiar and unfamiliar faces alike. 

Meet Mark Uhlenberg

Meet Mark Wilkins

Mark is an optometrist and has worked at Clarkson Eyecare since 2013. He has been married to Erin for sixteen years. They have three children – Abby (13), Emma (10), and Luke (8). He appreciates that every Sunday the Word of God is faithfully preached at Greentree. Mark has been a member of Greentree since 2006. Over the years, Mark has served on the welcome team, taught Sunday School, led and participated in community groups. Mark has also volunteered at many Greentree events, including Harvest Party and 20:28.

Meet John Wilson

John came to Christ at an early age and was confirmed in the Lutheran church in 8th grade. He started attending Greentree around 2005 and joined in 2009. He met his wife, Allie, here; they’ve been married since 2010. John has enjoyed participating in the annual 20:28 service projects at Greentree for over 15 years. He decided to become a deacon in 2019 so that I could serve the church in these kinds of practical, physical ways more often. John also serves on the worship team.
