Easter Week - Standing in the Shadow Living in the Light

  • Mar 12, 2010

Seder Dinners, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, March 30, 31 and April 1
6:30 PM

During the week preceding Easter this year, Greentree will offer a unique worship opportunity.  A number of Greentree families will open their homes and host a celebration of a Seder dinner.  What is a Seder?  Why would Christians celebrate this ancient Hebrew tradition?

Seder is the Passover meal celebrated since the exodus of the Jews from Egypt.  It is likely that Jesus himself participated in this Passover meal every year of his earthly life, even during the last week of his life.  The Seder meal is what we have come to know as the Last Supper.  It was during this meal that Jesus announced the New Covenant between God and humankind.  As Christians, we traditionally celebrate a portion of the Seder during communion in the breaking of bread and drinking of wine or juice because it reminds us of Jesus' body and blood.

The full Seder meal is rich with symbolism of God's faithfulness to His people.  The Seder ceremony and celebration also reminds us of our common heritage of faith with the ancient Hebrew people, which continues to this day through Jesus.  In this sense, Christians in 2009 can participate in an ancient ceremony that is as Christian as it is Jewish.   For additional information, log onto www.christianseder.com.

To make a reservation for one of the dinners, please contact Hannah Edwards, 314.909.9197 x 112, . Registration deadline is March 22.  We hope everyone in the Greentree family takes advantage of the opportunity to celebrate a Seder dinner during Holy Week this year!
